Task 3LEGEND OF MALIN KUNDANG FROM WEST SUMATERA, INDONESIALong time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatera, lived a woman and her son, Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang’s father had passed away when he was a baby, and he had to live hard with his mother.
Malin Kundang was a healthy, dilligent, and strong child. He usually went to the sea to catch fish, and brought it to his mother, or sold it in the town.
One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing as usual, he saw a merchant’s ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed.
Many years later, Malin Kundang became a wealthty merchant, with a huge ship, loads of trading goods, many ship crews, and a beautiful wife. In his journey, his ship landed on a beach. The villagers reconigzed him, and the news ran fast in the town: Malin Kundang became a rich man and now he is here. His mother, in deepful sadnees after years of loneliness, ran to the beach to meet her beloved son again.
When the mother came, Malin Kundang, in front of his well dressed wife, his crews and his own gloriness, denied to meet that old, poor and dirty woman. For three times she begged Malin Kundang and for three times yelled at him. At last Malin Kundang said to her “Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly peasant!” Then he ordered his crews to set sail.
Enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn’t apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and set sail.
In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to apologized. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship, fell on a small island, and suddenly turned into stone.

Raden Ajeng Kartini

Raden Ajeng Kartini was an emancipation pioneer in indonesia. Her ideals werw to raise the women ‘s prestige through education .Education made women gain rights and skills equal to men. The pioneer was born on April 21st 1879 in jepara.

Did not give her permission .As a girl she had to stay at home until she got married.
Kartini had to obey her father and burrief her desire in her heart.Fortunately, she was fond of reafing she read manybook and magazines.her hobby enlarges her mind widely .she compared the indonesian women to europeans .she want to advance her race .she founded a school for girls at jepara. There were only nine students at that time. Kartini al so wrote many letters, she always vented her ideals to claim the equvalence between men and
women.
She died very young and did not taste her exertion .

Baridin and Ratmina

Baridin and Ratmina is one of the legend in Indonesia. It is telling about love story. It was happened about 1940-1950’s in Cirebon, West Java. Baridin was a poorman and just a farmer. He only lived with his mom, was called Mbok Wangsih. Ratmina, she was a richest girl in her village. She was looking pretty. And she just lived with her Dad, was called Bapak Dam.

Oneday, Baridin asked to his mom to proposed mariage for Ratmina. And then Mbok Wangsih tried to did what Baridin want. But unfortunately, her propose pushed away by Bapak Dam. Not only be mad, Bapak Dam also talked too much about Baridin. So that’s why Baridin so sad and broken heart.

“Kemat Jaran Goyang” and “Ajian Semar Mesem” were used Baridin to made Ratmina fell in love to him. He also did fasting for fourty days. And finally Ratmina’s life was changed. Almost everyday she tought about Baridin and always asked where he did?. Ratmina was crazy.
At the end, the fourth day in his fasting Baridin and Ratmina met each other. But, both of them were died then.

The Legend of Pinang Mountain from Banten

Once upon a time in Banten, there lived a poor fisherman. His name was Dampu Awang. He lived with his mother. Dampu always worked hard. He wanted to be a rich man.
Dampu heard that there was a rich merchant coming to his village. The merchant had a big ship. He always sailed in the sea and he sold things in the places he visited. Dampu wanted to work for him.
Dampu Awang made decision. He was bored become a poor man. His mother couldn’t do anything. Finally, She let him go.
Dampu met with merchant. He told him that he wanted to work with him.
“ Ok, I will let you join with me, but you have to work hard. If you want to be rich merchant like me, you have to pay attention what I do.” Said the merchant.
Dampu Awang was happy. He imagined that he would be a rich man.
Dampu always works hard. Slowly the merchant trusted him.
The merchant was old and wanted Dampu to marry with his daughter . Dampu agreed to get married with his daughter and he could become a rich man.
Meanwhile, Dampu’s mother heard that her son had become a rich man. She also heard that he was married and had a big ship. Everyday she prayed to God. She hoped that Dampu would come home soon.
God answered her prayer. Dampu and his wife arrived at the village. Many people greeted Dampu and they all praised him.
Dampu’s mother tried to meet Dampu. She called Dampu’s name loudly. Finally, she came with Dampu.
“Dampu… Dampu.. It’s me, your mother.”
Unhappily he ignored his mother. Dampu was so ashamed with his mother. She was old with her cloth was worn-out. She was also dirty.
“Please go away an old woman”. You are not my mother. My mother was a rich woman and she was died,”
The guards pushed Dampu’s mother away. She was so sad and she prayed to God.
“If he is not my son, let him sail safely. But if he is my son, punish him.”
God again answered her prayer. When Dampu sailed in the sea, great storm attacked his ship. Rain and thunder attacked the ship. Dampu realize his mistake but it was to late. The ship was slowly sink and finally submerged.
Finally, the ship changed become a mountain. People named it Pinang Mountain.

Banjar Kingdom

Starting from the weakening of the influence in the State of Daha in Kandangan as the ruling kingdom at that time, Raden Sukarama wanted to pass the throne to his grandson Raden Samudera’s. Raden Sukarama’s wishes were opposed by Mangkubumi, Tumenggung and Bagulung, they were the Children of Raden Sukarama,Raden Samudera’s suffered defeat after fighting the children of Raden Sukarama’s then fled and hid in the Hilir Barito.At that time that areas developed into Banjarmasih City because of the busy trade and many traders who settled there. in his political escape Raden Samudera’s got Banjarmasih as a potential area to fight against the central power of the State of Daha, Raden Samudera’s received recognition by the Malay community in that area as the Head of State.After becoming the King of Banjarmasih, Patih Masih advised Raden Samudera’s to ask the Sultan of Demak for help and corporate in fighting to Daha state and the Sultan of Demak agreed to the collaboration on one condition that Raden Samudera’s and his followers had to convert to Islam. This condition was approved by Raden Samudera’s. After that the Sultan of Demak sent his contingent who led by Khatib Dayan to attack Daha state in Hulu Barito River and ended with a consensus that Raden Samudera’s was the winner, Banjarmasih is the winner. After that Raden Samudera moved the people of the State of Daha to Banjarmasih and Raden Samudera’s as the Head of State. Banjarmasih consisted of the State of Daha, Malays, Dayak and Javanese people (Demak contingent). then Raden Samudera’s has made Islam the State Religion of Banjarmasih and the people too. Islam and the title changed to Sultan Suriansyah was the first kingdom led by Sultan Suriansyah

THE LEGEND OF TANJUNG LESUNG

Every famous or historical place usually associated with a legend or myth that accompanies it. Likewise with Tanjung Lesung which is lyed at the western tip of the Island of Java. This beautiful beach tourism area with white sand facing Mount Krakatau is included in Pandeglang Regency, Banten. Further west from Tanjung Lasung is an area of Ujung Kulon National Park which is famous for its one horned rhinoceros.

It is said that in ancient times there was a beautiful girl named Sri Poh Haci who loved to play lesung and alu. Lesung is a mortar which is a large wooden block with a recess like a boat in the middle, its function as a place to pound rice. Meanwhile alu is a wooden rod like a spear but with a blunt tip, which function as a hammer. Sri Poh Haci was so good at playing the pestle (alu) and mortar (lesung) wasp that produce a very melodious rhythm that invited those who heard and saw it. Finally, Sri Poh Haci’s habit became the habit of other girls in the village.

One day Sri Poh Haci arrived by a handsome young man, named Raden Budog. He is a wanderer who comes from far away because of his dream to find Poh Haci to be his wife. Long story short, they got married.

One day after the wedding, as usual, Poh Haci played the lesung (mortar) and alu (pestle) with a beautiful voice and rhythm. That attracted her husband’s attention and admiration. Raden budog also learned to beat the alu and lesung from his wife. Every day he played it well. Unfortunately, Raden Budog’s new habit of playing it did not pay attention to time and manners in his wife’s village. He could played it all day until the night.

Until one day he played the lesung on Friday, even though Friday is forbidden to play it. Even though he had been warned many times by his wife, he didn’t care. When the people came to warn him to stop playing lesung, they were shocked to see his figure who was seen as a lutung (a kind of black monkey) playing lesung. When the people shouted at him as a lutung, then he realized that he had turned into a lutung. In a state of shock, sadness and regret, he finally fled to the forest. Since then raden Budog has not returned to his human form, he has been cursed. Sri Poh Haci was saddened by her husband’s fate. Embarrased, she left the village. It is said that finally incarnated as the Goddess of Rice (Dewi Sri)

Actually the legend of Tanjung Lesung is also related to the myth of Dewi Sri. Dewi sri is the figure of Nyai Dewi Sri Poh Haci.

Since then the village has been called the village of Lesung. Because of its position on a promotory, the village of Lesung has gradually been called Tanjung Lesung, until now.

Task. 3Situ BagenditSitu Bagendit is a story a lake, exist in the area of west java. Far a way in village there was a old rich women, her name Baginda Endit. She was a feelinf less women.
One day, an old woman beggar came to Nyai Bagendit’s house and asked for some money and some food. Of course, she immediately refused to give the money or the food.
Baginda Endit then threw a stone to the old beggar. The old beggar very sad. She than said, i know Baginda Endit is the richest but you nevee help other people. Wait for the punishment from Alloh. Baginda Endit was very arrogant. Not long after that, an earthquake happened. Her house fell down.
The village was disappeared. The thing that left was a wide and deep lake. The lake was named Situ Bagendit. Situ means a wide lake. It was named Situ Bagendit, because the wide lake came from name to Bagenda Endit.

The Legend of Pesut Mahakam

Once, lived a happy family with two children near the river bank. They had enough livestock. People in their village worked as farmers or fishermen. They always held a harvest party to thank for the food they had each year, so did this happy family.

One day, the mother got really sick then she passed away. Her husband was so sad that he couldn’t move on. He never paid attention to his children and himself anymore.

The harvest time was coming. Everyone in the village was so excited to celebrate the harvest party except this man who just lost his wife. However, he tried to attend and enjoy the party on the seventh day.

When he sat near the stage, there was a beautiful girl who danced wonderfully. Her performance was amazing that he couldn’t stop looking and smiling at her.

The man then fell in love with her, so did her. He decided to marry her. The children agreed and hoped they could be a happy family again.

Unfortunately, their step mother didn’t like them. She forced her step children to collect wood from the forest. They shouldn’t be back home before doing her command.

Feeling starving and thirsty, the two children asked for help to an old man who lived in the forest. He showed them fruit to eat. After being full up, they continued collecting wood then going home.

To their surprise, no body was at home. The house was empty, their property was gone. Neither their father nor their step mother was there. They were confused.

They walked along the river bank and asked people they met. No one saw their parents. They felt exhausted and pretty upset.

An old man with the boat said that he met the man with his wife sailing across the river. Their boat was full of stuff. The children though they must be their parents. Therefore, they borrowed that old man’s boat and sailed to the place he pointed.

They arrived at the other side of the river and walked into the jungle. They found a new log cabin with their parents’ stuffs. They were certain that the owner was their parents.

They walked straight in and looked for hot porridge in the pot. They were really hungry that they could eat it at once. After eating, they felt their bodies became really hot.

They run quickly towards the door. They touched and hugged banana trees that directly became brown because of the heat of their bodies. Finally, they reached the river bank. They jumped into the river to get cool water, but their legs turned into a tail like a fish. They cried out loud but the tears just spread out and killed the small fish.

Their father and his wife saw them in the river, but he couldn’t help them. When he turned around, his wife disappeared. He then realized that his wife was not a human like them. He felt regret that he lost his two children. They had turned into dolphins. Many people called them as Pesut Mahakam.
